It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of husband, best friend, father, comrade, and Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.
Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.
The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.
Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Έφυγε από τη ζωή τη Δευτέρα στη Νέα Υόρκη, σε ηλικία 67 ετών, ο Glenn Frey, ένας από τους ιδρυτές του θρυλικού συγκροτήματος «Eagles».
Στην επίσημη ιστοσελίδα του γκρουπ (eagles.com) γνωστοποιείται ότι ο κιθαρίστας και πιανίστας απεβίωσε «έπειτα από θαρραλέα μάχη που έδωσε τις τελευταίες εβδομάδες, υποκύπτοντας σε επιπλοκές από ρευματοειδή αρθρίτιδα, οξεία ελκώδη κολίτιδα και πνευμονία».
«Η οικογένειά του αισθάνεται την ανάγκη να ευχαριστήσει όποιον έδωσε μαζί του τη μάχη, πάλεψε και προσευχήθηκε για να αναρρώσει. Τα λόγια δεν μπορούν να περιγράψουν τη θλίψη μας, ούτε την αγάπη και τον σεβασμό για όλα όσα μας πρόσφερε, για όλα όσα πρόσφερε στην οικογένειά του, στη μουσική κοινότητα και σε εκατομμύρια θαυμαστές παγκοσμίως» προστίθεται.
Σε δήλωσή του για τον Frey, ο Don Henley (ιδρυτικό μέλος των Eagles) ανέφερε: «Αυτός τα ξεκίνησε όλα. Ήταν ο σπινθήρας, ο τύπος με σχέδιο. Είχε μια εγκυκλοπαιδική γνώση της δημοφιλούς μουσικής και ένα εργασιακό ήθος που δεν τα παρατούσε (ποτέ). Ήταν αστείος, ξεροκέφαλος, ψυχολογικά άστατος, γενναιόδωρος, με μεγάλο ταλέντο και κινητοποίηση».
Όταν οι Eagles άνοιξαν τα φτερά τους
Όλα ξεκίνησαν το 1971 όταν ο Glenn Frey συναντά τον Don Henley (τύμπανα, φωνή) στο Λος Άντζελες. Μαζί με τους Bernie Leadon (μπάντζο, ηλεκτρική κιθάρα, φωνητικά) και Randy Meisner (μπάσο, κιθάρα, φωνητικά) σχηματίζουν τους «Eagles».
Συνδυάζοντας στοιχεία country με rock, δημιουργούν ένα δικό τους προσωπικό ήχο, ο οποίος μαγεύει εκατ. ανθρώπους σε όλο τον κόσμο. Το θρυλικό συγκρότημα διαλύθηκε το 1980 (με τον Glenn Frey να ακολουθεί με επιτυχία solo καριέρα) και επανασυνδέθηκε το 1994, όταν και κυκλοφόρησε τον δίσκο «Hell Freezes Over». Μέχρι και το 2014 οι «Eagles» έδιναν συναυλίες σε όλο τον κόσμο. Το συγκρότημα έχει ξεπεράσει σε πωλήσεις τους 100 εκατ. δίσκους, ενώ η συλλογή «Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975» είναι το δεύτερο πιο εμπορικό άλμπουμ όλων των εποχών στις ΗΠΑ.
Το «Τake It Easy» (από το ντεμπούτο άλμπουμ τους με τίτλο «Eagles», 1971) ήταν η πρώτη τους μεγάλη επιτυχία. Ακολούθησαν αξέχαστα τραγούδια όπως «Desperado», «Already Gone», «One of These Nights», «Best of My Love» και «Life in the Fast Lane».
Κορυφαία τους επιτυχία, πάντως, θεωρείται το Hotel California (1976), το οποίο συμπεριλαμβάνεται στις κορυφαίες θέσεις των καλύτερων κομματιών της rock μουσικής.
